Tax-free shopping in Morocco

Yes. Visitors who don't live in Morocco can get back the 20% VAT (TVA) on purchases of at least MAD 2,000 by claiming the VAT (TVA) refund before they leave.

Who can claim

  • You live outside Morocco and are on a short stay.
  • You take the goods out of Morocco in your personal luggage.

How to get the money back

  1. Spend at least MAD 2,000 incl. VAT in one participating store on one day.
  2. Show your passport and ask for the tax-free (export sales) form with your invoice.
  3. At departure, show the goods, invoices and forms to Moroccan customs (ADII) and get the customs stamp.
  4. Take the stamped form to the refund operator's counter in the international zone.
  5. Choose how to be paid from the options the operator offers.

Where to validate: At the customs (ADII) office at your exit point from Morocco, then at the approved refund operator's counter (airports and main ports).

Deadline: Goods must leave Morocco before the end of the third month after the month of purchase.

Worth knowing

  • Without the customs stamp there is no refund, so validate before you check in bags holding the goods.
  • The refund operator keeps a service fee, so you get back less than the full 20% VAT.
  • Keep the goods unused and easy to reach for inspection.
