Tax-free shopping in Croatia

Yes. Visitors who live outside the EU can get back about 13.1–17.9% of the price on purchases of at least €100.01 by claiming the VAT (PDV) refund before they leave.

Who can claim

  • You have no permanent or usual residence in the EU.
  • EU citizens who live permanently outside the EU can also claim.

How to get the money back

  1. Ask for a tax-free form at the till and show your passport.
  2. Keep the invoice and form with the unused goods.
  3. Have the form stamped or validated by customs when you leave the EU.
  4. Claim the refund from the store or its refund operator.

Where to validate: At customs at your LAST EU exit point: a Croatian airport, port or road border crossing (for example to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia or Montenegro), before check-in.

Deadline: Goods must leave the EU before the end of the third month after the month of purchase.

Worth knowing

  • If you drive out of the EU, use a staffed border crossing and stop at customs before you cross.
  • Without the customs stamp or digital validation you get no refund.
