The rising star of tourism
Vietnam's tourism saw a record-breaking year in 2025, welcoming approximately 21.2 million international visitors, a 20.4% increase from 2024 and its government is aiming for even bigger numbers in 2026. As the beautiful country that it is, the GDP expansion it can source from tourism is huge and the country's government aims to make good use of it.
A forgotten gem of SEA
The country has been slept on for a while but is finally finding its audience worldwide through its affordable lifestyle and beautiful scenery. Cities like Da Nang has been built as hubs for digital nomads seeking an alternative to the over-crowded Bali, which has been sitting at the top of digital nomad destination for years, and is finally getting a return on investment.
But before moving there beware of its peculiar weather !
Central Vietnam might be known for its comfortable cost of living but it is also well known to be prone to flooding during the rainy season.
Last year some heavy floods hit multiple countries around south east Asia but one of the most disastrous ones was definitely Vietnam. Cities like Hue, Nha Trang, Hoi An and Da Nang have seen minor damages but regions like Dak Lak or Khánh Hòa have been heavily impacted. While these regions are less touristy the traffic between the south and center Vietnam has been put to a stop making the commute by bus way harder.
Now this flood was indeed a special one but the timing still falls within the rainy season which is roughly from May to November. For those reasons prepping in advance regarding weather patterns is important even if the accuracy isn't perfect because you maximize your chances of avoiding those events.

With the new Visa policy that the government instated for 2026 there is no reason not to make Vietnam one of your destination ! Many countries have seen their visa requirements lowered as part of the tourism initiative which now leaves up to 45 days for you to travel around Vietnam care free.
